Renewed Rules of Conduct

The school’s new Rules of Conduct starting from 1 August 2025

Amendments to the Basic Education Act that concern the restriction of phone and other mobile device use will come into effect on the 1st of August 2025. The renewed Rules of Conduct of Maunulan yhteiskoulu – Helsingin matematiikkalukio have been drawn up in collaboration with the staff, and guardians and students have had the opportunity to comment on the change that affects mobile device use. The school’s steering group has approved the Rules of Conduct (below) in their meeting on the 26th May 2025.

 

RULES OF CONDUCT (into effect on 1 August 2025)

The rules apply in all school activities, including camp school, school trips and work orientation periods. Any student who disrupts the school’s peaceful working environment or activity can be punished according to the ways defined in the Basic Education Act and General Upper Secondary Schools Act.

If any kind of harrassment, bullying, discrimination or violence in school or during the journey to school is brought to the attention of the principal or any teacher, they will notify the guardians of the suspected student and of the targeted student. The names of the participants may be told to the guardians in these cases. (Basic Education Act 29 §, General Upper Secondary Schools Act 40 §)

1. I take others into consideration in my behaviour and I respect their privacy.

· I have good manners in all the school premises and school events.
· I dress appropriately.
· I do not bully or discriminate against anyone.
· I work according to the teacher’s instructions and do the assignments.
· I only take photos of people who have given me permission to do so, and I only publish content that I have copyrights to and permission to publish.

2. In my part, I take responsibility for my own and others’ safety.

· I do not jeopardise the physical, mental, social or digital wellbeing or health of other students or staff members with my actions.
· I do my share in keeping the walkways clear. I do not linger in the stairways or in front of the doors at all.
· Due to safety reasons, motorcycles, mopeds, bikes, scoots and electric scooters must be left to the spaces provided to them for the duration of the school day.
· It is forbidden to use addictive substances and nicotine products during the school day.

3. I am honest in what I do.

· I take full responsibility for what I do. I report damages.
· I do my assignments myself and mention the sources I have used.
· I don’t cheat or use artificial intelligence in assignments that are assessed.

4. I take care of the cleanliness, pleasantness and property of the school.

· I clean up after myself in class and at lunch.
· I make sure that I put things back to where they belong after use.
· I am obliged to compensate for any damage I do.

5. The use of mobile devices in class and at school events is allowed only with the permission of the teacher

· It is not allowed to use a mobile device during a lesson unless it is with the teacher’s permission for learning purposes, or with the principal’s or teacher’s permission for personal health care.
· During lessons and school events, mobile devices are kept on do-not-disturb mode in the student’s own bag or in a place shown by the teacher.
· The use of mobile devices is not allowed during lunch time for lower secondary students.

6. Leaving the school area is not allowed during the school day without a separate permission.

· This last rule applies to lower secondary students.
