Studying in the English-speaking classes

  • Students study in accordance with a five-period system. Students’ timetables change every seven weeks.
  • Subjects are assessed with grades 4 to 10. A report card is given at the end of autumn and spring term.
  • The length of the school day varies. The school day starts at the earliest at 8.00 a.m. and finishes at the latest at 4 p.m.

Education

  • In the English-speaking classes, education is given in accordance with the Finnish national comprehensive school curriculum with a strong emphasis on strengthening the student’s English and Finnish language skills.
  • All compulsory subjects are taught in English. In some optional subjects taught in the 8th and 9th grades, students can be integrated with the Finnish-speaking students’ groups.
  • All the classes are taught by native English-speakers or by Finnish teachers with excellent skills in English.

Optional Subjects

During their studies in the 8th and 9th grades, students have optional subjects that they choose from: Art, Business Studies, French, German, Home Economics, Music, Technical or Textile Work.

School Facilities

Our school’s modern facilities include a music auditorium, special classrooms for textile and technical work, science laboratories, computer classrooms, an art classroom and a gymnasium. All the classrooms are well-equipped with computers, video projectors and screens.

Our beautiful and spacious cafeteria is greatly appreciated by everyone.

Extra-curriculum Activities

Outside school hours, students can participate in different clubs such as music, sport, drama, textile and technical work. Information about the school clubs is given at the beginning of the autumn term.

Other Activities

  • International Evening. Students, parents and teachers gather together to enjoy international programme and dinner.
  • Culture Day. Students of the International Classes get acquainted with the sights and surroundings of Helsinki.
  • Camp School. 9th graders spend a few days together in a sports centre.
  • Work Practice. 8th graders gain practice in the working life for one week and 9th graders for 2 weeks during school time.
